April 28, 2017. Hyderabad – ICFAI Business School team won two nominated case awards at the 2016 Global Contest for the “Best China-Focused Cases”. The annual competition is co-organized by CEIBS, the Shanghai MBA Case Development and Sharing Platform and the Global Platform of China Cases (ChinaCases.org) with the aim of promoting global research on China-specific management issues.
The winning cases are:
“Can Starbucks Sustain its High Prices in China?” written by Debapratim Purkayastha, Benudhar Sahu, and S. Venkata Seshiah, IBS Hyderabad, and Trilochan Tripathy, Xavier School of Management, India. The case is about Starbucks’ pricing strategy in China under which the company charged higher prices for its products than in Western countries. The case goes on to discuss the competition growing in the market, and questions whether Starbucks can sustain its high prices in China.
“Can Huawei Overcome Roadblocks in its Quest for Global Markets?”, written by GV Muralidhara and Hadiya Faheem. This case discusses the challenges faced by Shenzhen-based networking and telecommunications equipment and services company, Huawei Technologies Ltd. (Huawei) in the global markets of the US, Australia, and the European Union for its telecom equipment.
According to the organizers, there were 199 cases submitted to the 2016 competition. After a rigorous screening process including blind reviews, group reviews, a nomination committee and a review by an International Expert Panel, 87 cases met the criteria set for acceptance by the “Shanghai MBA Case Library”. From these the winning case and the eight nominated case awardees were chosen.
